Resilience Under Fire.
Personal resilience that builds a resilient organisation
What resilience means when the stakes are real, and how the resilience of each person shapes the strength of the whole company.
Book This Talk
Resilience, trust and leadership under real pressure.
13 years in the British military with Tier One units. Almost 30 years leading protection teams around the world. Now Nige brings those lessons to your stage, in plain words your people can use.
Nige Thomas did not have the luxury of a soft childhood. He grew up in a small bungalow in West Wales that served less as a family home and more as an early lesson in threat assessment.
His mother suffered from multiple sclerosis, and Nige became her carer before most kids are trusted to cross the street alone. Life inside the house was hard, volatile, and highly unpredictable. When the environment fractured, a very small boy learned exactly how to scale the roof and wedge himself out of sight behind the chimney stack. It was quiet up there. More importantly, it was safe.
Eventually, a local butcher handed a restless, hard-edged teenager his first actual chance at a way out.
That single chance escalated. It led him to the Royal Marines. Then the Special Reconnaissance Regiment. Then 22 SAS. It is the kind of military CV that generally makes other people in the room stop talking.
When a succession of bad injuries forced his military career into an early retirement, Nige didn't exactly take up competitive baking. He pivoted into the shadows of close protection and covert surveillance. He ran specialist teams across the UK and overseas, operating in the quiet spaces most people prefer to ignore, before ultimately founding Blue Mountain Group.
No theory from a textbook. Each talk comes from hostile environments, protection teams and the job of running a growing business.

What resilience means when the stakes are real, and how the resilience of each person shapes the strength of the whole company.
Book This TalkKeep it simple. Plan, plan and plan again. Then, when it goes wrong, breathe. Nige shows how calm beats chaos, in a crisis and in the boardroom.

In August 2014 Nige rode the length of Britain, from Land's End to John O'Groats. That is about 1,000 miles on a single-speed butcher's bike from 1947, with no gears, no suspension and its original leather saddle. His tent and food rode in the front basket, and he camped in fields and laybys.
It was a thank-you to Philip Hughes, the butcher in St Clears who gave a teenager heading the wrong way a job and a reason to turn things around. Nige went on to win butchery awards at the Royal Welsh Show, then joined the Royal Marines.
The ride raised money for four young charities that support service personnel and veterans: Hire A Hero, Team Army, the Ray Gravell Trust and Walk on Wales. Not bad for a man who once broke his neck playing rugby in Australia.
